Payment & Insurance

What we accept: Cash, all major credit cards, HSA cards, FSA cards.

Insurance: We are out-of-network for all major insurance. We provide a detailed superbill after each visit that you can submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement. Reimbursement rates depend on your specific plan — typically 30–70% of the visit fee for patients with out-of-network benefits.

Why out-of-network: Operating outside the insurance system lets us spend appropriate time on each patient (60–90 minutes for first visits, not 12 minutes), order the labs that actually answer the clinical question, and design protocols that aren’t constrained by insurance coverage gaps for functional medicine work.

HSA/FSA: Both work for our services in full. If your HSA covers acupuncture (most do, and the IRS code 213 explicitly includes acupuncture), it also covers most of the work we do. Functional medicine consultation and peptide protocol design are HSA/FSA eligible.

Memberships and packages: Package pricing brings per-session costs down. Patients running multi-modality work often save 25–40% with the package structure.

What to Expect at Your First Visit

Before the Visit

You’ll fill out an intake form covering your health history, current symptoms, medications, supplements, recent labs, and what you’re hoping to address. The more detail, the better — but don’t worry about being perfect. We refine the picture in the conversation.

The Visit Itself (60–90 Minutes In-Person; 60 Minutes Virtual)

  • Detailed history review
  • Current symptom picture and what you’ve already tried
  • Recent labs you’ve had run elsewhere, if any
  • Pulse and tongue assessment (in-person) — these are the cornerstones of Chinese medicine diagnostic pattern recognition
  • Discussion of which modalities fit your situation
  • Initial protocol outline
  • Treatment session (if in-person and clinically appropriate) — typically an acupuncture treatment or first hypnotherapy session

After the Visit

You’ll leave with a written summary of the plan, any supplements or herbs we discussed, and clear next steps. If labs need to be run, we’ll either order them directly or coordinate with your existing provider.

Modalities We Offer

Acupuncture — Traditional Chinese acupuncture and dry needling for pain, autonomic regulation, hormonal balance, digestive issues, anxiety, sleep, and recovery.

Clinical Hypnotherapy — Hypnosis for sleep, anxiety, smoking cessation, weight regulation, performance, perimenopausal symptoms, phobias, and habit change. Dr. Bright is trained in clinical hypnotherapy and integrates Neuro-Linguistic Programming techniques (anchoring, swish, parts integration, reframing) where clinically appropriate.

Functional Medicine Consultation — Root-cause workup using comprehensive bloodwork, functional labs (organic acids, stool microbiome, food sensitivities, hormones, heavy metals when relevant), and protocol design.

Chinese Herbal Formulas — Custom formulas calibrated to your pattern. We work with research-grade and traditional pharmacies for high-quality sourcing.

Peptide Therapy Guidance — For patients exploring research-grade peptides with appropriate clinical oversight. We do not operate as a 503A pharmacy or write pharmaceutical prescriptions; we provide clinical guidance for patients sourcing peptides through legitimate research channels.

Quantum Neurology — A neurological rehabilitation modality particularly useful for post-concussion recovery, peripheral neuropathy, and nervous-system dysregulation.

Neuro-Emotional Technique (NET) — Mind-body work for resolving the emotional component of physical symptoms.

Conditions We Commonly Treat

Sleep disorders (including chronic insomnia and circadian disruption), anxiety, executive burnout, perimenopausal and menopausal symptoms (hot flashes, mood, sleep), Long COVID, post-viral syndromes, MCAS, chronic fatigue, post-concussion syndrome, chronic pain (especially neck, back, joint), digestive issues (IBS, dysbiosis, food sensitivities, reflux), hormonal imbalances, fertility support, ADHD and focus issues, smoking cessation, GLP-1 protocol design and rebound prevention, longevity and preventive care, athletic performance, recovery from injury.

If your specific condition isn’t listed, send a quick message and we’ll let you know whether we’re the right fit.

Virtual Care

Virtual visits are available for any California resident. Virtual care covers functional medicine consultation, hypnotherapy, herbal formula prescribing, peptide therapy guidance, and follow-up. Acupuncture and in-person modalities like Quantum Neurology obviously require in-person visits.

Virtual first visit is $150. Virtual follow-ups are $129. The clinical depth doesn’t change — only the modality access does.

How We’re Different from Your Other Options

vs. conventional primary care: Longer visits (60–90 minutes vs. 12), root-cause workup vs. symptom management, integrative modality access, no insurance gatekeeping. Not a replacement for conventional acute care or screening — a complement.

vs. cheap telehealth (Hims, MEDVi, eMed, similar): Comprehensive multi-system workup vs. single-condition focus, direct clinician relationship vs. asynchronous portal, multi-modality integration vs. Rx-only. Higher per-visit cost; deeper per-visit value.

vs. higher-tier concierge ($15–50k/year): Cash-pay flexibility, no membership requirement, no annual retainer. Comparable clinical depth on the issues we work on, at a fraction of the all-in cost.

vs. other functional medicine clinics: DAOM credential adds the Chinese medicine diagnostic layer (pulse, tongue, pattern recognition) on top of the functional medicine workup. Most functional medicine clinics don’t carry this; the diagnostic depth is meaningfully different.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are you a real doctor?
Yes — Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (DAOM), Licensed Acupuncturist in California. I am not a medical doctor (MD), do not write pharmaceutical prescriptions, and do not practice within MD scope. The DAOM is a doctoral-level clinical degree in Chinese medicine. The DAOM scope of practice in California covers acupuncture, herbal medicine, dietary recommendations, lifestyle counseling, and the modalities listed above.

Can you order bloodwork?
Yes, for relevant clinical workup. We use Quest, LabCorp, Function Health, and specialty functional labs depending on the question.

Do you write prescriptions?
No — that requires MD or DO licensure. We work alongside your prescribing physician when prescriptions are clinically indicated.

Do you treat children?
Limited pediatric work. Acupuncture is generally not the first choice for kids; specific modalities for specific conditions may apply. Email first to discuss.

Do you treat pregnant patients?
Yes, with appropriate modifications. Acupuncture is well-tolerated and frequently helpful in pregnancy for nausea, back pain, anxiety, and labor preparation.

Will my visit be covered by insurance?
Out-of-network reimbursement depends on your plan. Most patients with out-of-network benefits see 30–70% reimbursement on the visit fee with our superbill.

How quickly can I get an appointment?
Typical wait time for a first visit is 1–2 weeks. Urgent cases can sometimes be accommodated sooner — call to ask.

Do you take walk-ins?
No. All visits by appointment.

How long until I feel better?
Depends on the condition. Acute issues often respond within 1–3 visits. Chronic complex issues (Long COVID, MCAS, perimenopause, autoimmune) typically need 3–6 months of structured work. We give you an honest timeline at the first visit.

Do you work with my primary care doctor?
Yes, and we encourage it. We provide visit summaries you can share with your primary care doctor so the coordination happens cleanly.

What if I’m not sure your practice is the right fit?
Book a free 15-minute phone consult before committing to a first visit.
