Applied Kinesiology in Tustin — the body's own diagnostic feedback.

Muscle testing as real-time assessment. AK lets us read structural, chemical, and emotional imbalances directly from the body — instead of guessing or waiting weeks for labs to confirm what we already suspect.

What is Applied Kinesiology?

Applied Kinesiology (AK) is a clinical assessment system developed by Dr. George Goodheart in the 1960s. It uses precise manual muscle testing to reveal patterns of weakness and imbalance — patterns that correlate with structural dysfunction, nutritional needs, organ stress, and emotional triggers.

The premise: the nervous system responds instantly to inputs. When you hold a substance you're sensitive to, or when we press on a meridian related to an organ under stress, the corresponding indicator muscle will measurably weaken. The body tells us what it needs, in real time — no guessing.

What AK can assess

  • Food and supplement compatibility — what works for your body, not generic protocols
  • Organ stress patterns — which systems are under load before symptoms peak
  • Structural imbalances — which stabilizers are inhibited, which restrictions to address first
  • Emotional triggers — when an emotional pattern is driving a physical symptom
  • Allergy and sensitivity patterns — particularly when combined with NAET protocols
  • Treatment response — confirming whether an adjustment, supplement, or technique landed

What an AK session looks like

AK is integrated throughout most of my visits, not booked as a separate service. We use it to guide what acupuncture points to needle, what supplements to prioritize, which structural restriction to address first, and whether the work we just did actually shifted the pattern. It's the difference between a clinician guessing at a protocol and a clinician confirming what the body actually responds to.

What AK is — and what it isn't

I want to be honest about this. Applied Kinesiology is a clinical assessment tool, not a laboratory diagnostic. It's powerful for guiding treatment in real time and identifying patterns conventional labs miss — but it doesn't replace blood work for things blood work is good at (lipid panels, thyroid hormones, inflammatory markers, etc.). The best clinical practice uses AK and conventional labs together, each for what it does best.

AK within the Four Layers framework

AK is the connective tissue across all four layers. It assesses Layer 1 (structural), Layer 2 (chemical), Layer 3 (emotional triggers), and Layer 4 (meridian flow) — all from the same physical exam. That's why it's foundational to how I work: it reveals which layer is the priority for each individual patient.

Frequently asked

Is Applied Kinesiology scientifically validated?

AK is a clinical assessment tool with a long track record in chiropractic and integrative practice. Research-grade evidence is mixed, which is why Dr. Bright is honest about its role: it's powerful for guiding treatment in real time, but it doesn't replace conventional lab work for things labs do best.

Will I be tested at every visit?

Yes — Dr. Bright integrates AK throughout most visits as a real-time check on what your body is responding to. It's not booked separately; it's woven into your standard appointment.

Can AK identify food sensitivities?

Yes — AK is particularly useful for identifying foods, supplements, and environmental triggers your body reacts to. When combined with NAET protocols, many patients see significant resolution of long-standing sensitivities.

Does AK replace blood work?

No. Blood work and AK are complementary — labs are best for measurable biomarkers (thyroid, lipids, inflammation); AK is best for real-time response patterns and what your body needs in this moment. Best clinical practice uses both.

Is AK painful or invasive?

Not at all. Manual muscle testing is gentle — Dr. Bright applies light pressure to specific muscles while you hold a substance or focus on a specific stimulus. No needles, no discomfort.
